Alumni Activity Explosion!

All across the United States local alumni groups are accomplishing great things. They are involved in a wide range of events and activities, from purely social gatherings to improving the communities they live in and contributing to their local YFU Regions. Below are just a few of the many alumni activities that have taken place over the past year. If you are thinking about becoming involved, want to start an alumni group or are just looking for some fresh ideas, read on!

Fantastic Alumni Social Events!

  blue paw button   YFU Day at Six Flags Over Georgia! YFU Exchange Students were admitted FREE and all other YFUers (that’s alumni, volunteers, host families, American overseas applicants, etc.) got in at discounted prices!

  blue paw button   In Malibu, Alumni organized a whale watching and tide pool day event.

  blue paw button   The Red-Hot Metro Peppers of Dallas-Fort Worth have monthly meetings featuring international food and games. This group also planned a road trip for all Oklahoma and Texas alumni.

  blue paw button   International student day trips in New York City. Alumni have taken international students ice skating in Central Park, to the Empire State building, a gospel church in Harlem, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many other great locations.

  blue paw button   In Boston, alumni organized a day at the beach for their field. They invited international students, volunteers, staff and current as well as prospective host parents. It was a wonderful opportunity for alumni to connect with the rest of the field.

  blue paw button   Monthly happy hours have been a huge success in metropolitan areas such as, Dallas, Metro-D.C., New York and Seattle due to the large numbers of young professionals and college students in those areas. Visitors are welcome!

Alumni Contributions to YFU

Alumni across the country are involved with YFU in traditional volunteer roles such as, American Overseas Volunteers, Area Representatives, Host Families and as Field Managers. Below are additional examples of how alumni are contributing to their local fields and regions.

  YFU button    Corporate Scholarships - Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Metro-D.C. and New York City alumni all assist their regional offices with coordinating and holding corporate interview days.

  YFU button    Information Nights - Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Metro-D.C., Omaha, and Tulsa alumni coordinate or assist with Information Nights. Alumni and their parents speak at these events speak about their exchange experiences for prospective students.

  YFU button    Peer Support - In Chicago and Los Angeles alumni are paired up with current international students in their area with whom they meet on a monthly basis. The alumnus acts as a junior YFU representative to the international student.

  YFU button    Volunteer Fairs - In Chicago, Metro-D.C. and Seattle alumni attended volunteer fairs where they promoted YFU, hosting and going overseas.
