Community and Personal Development
D.C. Cares Servathon and the Civitan Club. Alumni volunteers help to
make a difference in the quality of life in disadvantaged D.C. communities
by providing hands-on service to non-profits and public service organizations
through D.C. Cares projects. Civitan also provides scholarships for
YFU students in Northern Virginia. Alumni volunteers also walked and
raised money to support AIDS research and education at the D.C. AIDS
Walk.
Alumni in Los Angeles are planning an event focusing on career development.
Alumni will be asked to bring friends and resumes and share their ideas
on improving job search techniques, building networking skills, and
career exploration.
In Metro-D.C. alumni held career and skill building workshops followed
by a social reception.
Staying Connected
www.yfuatlanta.org - an amazing web site! They offer free web pages
to YFUers in their region and free Disney passes to YFU host families
in Georgia. The site also features pictures of international students,
information pages and a Thank You page to the many corporate sponsors
who donate funds to YFU Atlanta.(Editor's
note: This website is no longer functioning 2/28/03)
The Metro-Washington Alumni Association has a job and events e-mail
service and an area newsletter. New York City alumni also use an e-mail
service to stay in touch and plan events.

Orientation Specialists
Pre-Departure:
Each spring Pre-Departure orientations happen all across the
country. Alumni play a key role in making the Pre-Departures
a success in their regions. Who better to prepare a student
for their exchange than a well-trained and enthusiastic
alumnus!
Boston, Chicago, Colorado, Los Angeles,
Metro-D.C./Maryland, Michigan, Northern California, New York
and Seattle area alumni take an active role in assisting
their regional offices with coordinating, planning and
facilitating at the Pre-Departure orientations in their
areas.
American Overseas Re-Entry:
These fall meetings are great ways for alumni to meet other
alumni in the area, reconnect with YFU, learn about
volunteering and international careers, build their
cross-cultural communications skills, and have a lot of
fun!

Coordinators
These are the people who make
these events happen at the local level. They work
with their NAC Regional Facilitator and local
