YFU academic year and semester programs are the best way to absorb a new culture and learn a language in what is called "whole language learning." Through your experience of living with a host family, attending school, and interacting with friends over an academic year or semester, you will understand the culture, the people, their country and heritage much better than those who have not had the same opportunity. Academically, you will benefit from learning in a global setting, gaining knowledge through the unique strengths of academic institutions abroad. Participate in established programs such as music, art, math, science, technology, or international relations. YFU summer programs offer you the possibility of learning the culture like no tourist could. On some programs you get to travel around the country with fellow YFU students from around the globe. On others you focus on a specific activity or participate in language and culture classes. Most summer programs begin in mid- to late June. Please note: Spaces are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is encouraged. If it is after October 1 (for winter departure programs) or April 1 (summer departure programs), please call toll-free 1-800-TEENAGE (1-800-833-6243) before submitting your application to speak with an Admissions Counselor about program availability. Many countries will allow late applications after negotiation, but some countries or programs have earlier deadlines. The admissions process is ongoing and YFU reserves the right to reassess the status of accepted students. Also note that due to foreign countries’ varying views on medication, YFU partners may have a more difficult time securing a host family in their country for students taking anti-depressant, anxiety, or attention deficit disorder medication. If a host family cannot be found, then students may be subject to cancellation and given a refund of all payments except the $75 or $35 non-refundable application fee. |
